Stories From the US Border Crisis
The situation at the US southern border continues to be a crisis. Here are a few recent stories to illustrate that point.
Last week, Rio Grande Valley Sector (RGV) Texas Border Patrol (BP) agents arrested “two previously convicted sex offenders and a gang member” while apprehending larger groups of illegal aliens. Their crimes were, respectively, “third degree felony sexual assault of a child,” “sexual assault of a minor,” and being a member of the terribly violent Mara-Salvatrucha (MS-13) gang.
During the same time period, RGV Border Patrol disrupted a human smuggling operation and identified a storm drain as an “entrance” into the US being used by illegal aliens. And, on Sept. 16, RGV BP agents made “37 arrests from a migrant stash house and vehicle pursuit.”
“This fiscal year, Border Patrol agents have disrupted over 400 migrant stash houses, resulting in over 7,400 migrants encounters throughout the Rio Grande Valley.”
Last Saturday, El Centro, California BP seized “78.41 pounds of methamphetamine, with an estimated value of $215,627.00” from an accused drug smuggler.
In Texas, “U.S. Border Patrol agents assigned to the Eagle Pass South Station encountered two children abandoned in the Rio Grande River near Eagle Pass, Sept. 14. . .Agents quickly responded and safely retrieved both children.” The children were 2 years old and 3 months old, respectively.
Very early on Sept. 15, Laredo Border Patrol agents “rescued almost 50 people who were found during an alleged human smuggling attempt locked inside a trailer near Freer, Texas.”
U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania “seized nearly $100,000 in counterfeit euros and dollars on September 7 that shipped in international air cargo from Russia and was destined to an address near Chicago.” (emphasis added)
