Chinese Spokesman Says Requests for Covid Origin Answers Are "Disrespectful to Science"
Chinese foreign ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian said that the United States’ demand for an investigation into Covid-19’s origins was “disrespectful to science.”
Reading Chinese media often turns up some truly hypocritical statements from functionaries of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). This illogical statement from Zhao Lijian was buried in a report from the South China Morning Post on various global and European Union (EU) leaders’ (late) calls for access to all information necessary to investigate the origins of the Covid-19 plandemic.
Zhao Lijian, spokesman for the Chinese foreign ministry, apparently said in May that any insistence from the US on an investigation into the world health crisis’s origins is “disrespectful to science.” Heaven forbid we actually get answers regarding the virus that shut down the world.
“‘Some in the US, turning a blind eye to facts, science, the questionable study of origins and botched response at home, kept clamouring for additional investigation in China,’ Zhao said.
‘This shows that they don’t care about facts or truth and have zero interest in a serious science-based study of origins. Their aim is to use the pandemic to pursue stigmatisation and political manipulation to shift the blame.’”
It is amazing how much elites with something to hide put a sacred halo around “science.” Anything that can be termed science or scientific must be treated with more unquestioning reverence than religious people accused of superstition ever use. Just as the Jews of old were not allowed to look inside the Ark of the Covenant, so now we are not allowed to look into the Wuhan lab. Except, whereas the Jews could appeal to the reasonably compelling authority of Almighty God, we have now the authority merely of highly treacherous, small-souled, devious men telling us this.
Anthony Fauci is currently receiving a good deal of ridicule (and rightly so) for having said that any attack on him is an attack on science. I have two main points to make about Fauci and Zhao. Firstly, people in general should remember that science should never be treated with reverence or unquestioning credulity. Science is an extremely uncertain branch of knowledge in many ways—the history of science is one long story of people declaring they knew something for certain and being proved a few years later to be ludicrously wrong.
This is not meant as a rejection of science (I am rather fond of many of the products of modern science) but a simple statement of fact. Galileo is famous for championing heliocentrism, but he was egregiously wrong in his model of how heliocentrism worked and he actually mocked Keppler for his system—when in fact history has vindicated Keppler as being far more right in his model than Galileo was in his! Newton is famous for discovering gravity, but since then scientists have agreed he was fundamentally wrong in his overall explanation of how gravity worked. Darwin invented the theory of evolution—and even most modern die-hard evolutionists say Darwin’s model couldn’t possibly work.
Beware the man who appeals to “science” in such a way as to invest it with a sort of sacred certainty. He is either an ideologue, an ignoramus, or he has something to hide. In the case of Zhao and Fauci, of course, they are both ideologues and men who have something to hide.
The desire to know the origins of the virus still plaguing the world is not only entirely reasonable, but it is actually a desire precisely to understand the science. It is, therefore, truly a desire based in respect for and trust in science—it is the belief that science can really provide answers. Now, despite my criticism of scientists (or rather scientism) above, I do believe that science can provide answers. Science in a new study has just provided evidence that Covid-19 was engineered in a lab and then reverse engineered to look natural. Is this study disrespectful to science too?
Zhao is just another instance of the CCP trying to cover its tracks with an over-used catchphrase.
