AOC and the Anti-Police ‘Squad’ Spent $1.2M+ on Private Security
I know you’ll be shocked and flabbergasted, but Communist Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) and her fellow eight Congressional members of the “Squad” spent more than $1.2 million in campaign funds on private security for themselves—even while pushing to defund police and undermine Second Amendment gun rights.
And this lavish security spending happened even though all congressmen already get taxpayer-funded security from the U.S. Capitol Police.
This is just more proof that the Marxist elites believe the rules apply only to us peasants, and not to them. We are supposed to suffer from increasing crime and government tyranny without means of defending ourselves, but they must be protected by armed goons, because they are special.
The New York Post reported Aug. 19 on the hypocrisy from the “Squad” as uncovered from Federal Election Commission records:
“Leading the way is Cori Bush (D-Missouri), who has reported spending more than $730,000 on private security – including $75,000 she funneled to her own husband – and Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), whose $272,000-plus tab includes security upgrades at her district offices…
The extreme far-lefty did not return messages but declared in a 2021 CBS interview that — despite advocating to defund police — she needs private security because she faced death threats.”
The exact quote from Bush at the time was, “So suck it up, and defunding the police has to happen.” Yes, really.
I previously wrote about how Bush funneled tens of thousands of dollars—the Post says $75,000—to Cortney Merrits, now Bush’s husband, for security; even though he didn’t have a legal license to do so.
AOC the ever-brilliant clocked in second for campaign fund security spending at $272,914.67 since she took office in 2019, the Post reported.
“Her expenses include nearly $2,000 for security system installations at her Queens and Bronx district offices, more than $20,000 on ‘internet’ or ‘digital’ security, $4,263 for office security equipment and $521 for what she noted in FEC records as ‘security barriers.’
Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minnesota) ranked third, spending $125,683.75 on security services since taking office in 2019.
Rounding out the rest of the squad: Ayanna Pressley (D-Mass.) spent $64,763; Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.) $20,480; Jamaal Bowman (D-NY) $7,872; and Greg Casar (D-Texas) $1,570; while Summer Lee (D-Pa.) has yet to document security spending…Of the $1.23 million in total spending, $1.15 million was doled out after the May 25, 2020 police killing of George Floyd, which spurred nationwide riots and calls to defund police.”
This is key because members of the Squad were enthusiastic supporters of the Defund the Police movement, including AOC, Rashida Tlaib, Ilhan Omar, Jamaal Bowman, Ayanna Pressley, and Cori Bush.
The Squad has also attacked the Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms. For instance, Bowman had a shouting match with Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY) in March over the true effectiveness of gun “control” measures (Massie was right). AOC is a consistent proponent of gun-grabbing measures. Cori Bush has gone on incoherent rants about gun rights, including in March when she blathered, “we will not succumb to the nihilistic, insurrectionist view of the Second Amendment. We will not allow the apologists for gun violence to win.”
Like all Marxists (and Democrats), the members of the Squad are thorough hypocrites. They want to deprive American citizens of armed protection while spending taxpayer money and campaign funds on their own personal security.
